Tammy Fender’s namesake skincare line employs the inherent restorative qualities of pure, plant-based elements to create inner and outer radiance. By using the living parts of a plant – the “life force” if you will – Tammy’s products nourish the skin on a cellular level, literally feeding it with food-grade ingredients. She explains, “You’re utilizing that life force onto another life force – and creating homeostasis and harmony within the body.” And considering the skin is so transdermal (“You can rub garlic on your feet and taste it in your mouth almost immediately,” she comments) creating balance – or imbalance – can be achieved with the application of topical products.
Yet the physical benefits of her skin and body line are only part of her overall holistic stance on wellness. She explains, “I’m working on not only the physical level, but the psychological, emotional, spiritual level.” She continues, “For example, our antioxidant creme: it’s a multivitamin in a jar, wonderful for all skin types. For this product, we utilize an ingredient that is a sweet orange from Sicily. It has the ability to absorb into the skin at a cellular level, producing a swelling effect on the cells and helping them retain nourishment and moisture. But it goes even deeper than that. Remember to breathe. “The simplest one, which is a power tool we carry with us all time, is our breath. When you breathe in, just visualize the brilliant white light going in through every inhale – cleansing, healing, bathing every cell, every atom and everything about you. As you breathe out just start to visualize what no longer serves you, what you no longer want or need in your life… leaving your body through the exhale.”
Try a smile. “No matter how you’re feeling in a day, try putting a smile on your face. Your body releases endorphins through a smile. It will completely change whatever it is you may be feeling stressed about it. It’s so simple. And usually, someone will smile back.”
Find a word. “Maybe something that you’d call a mantra, and you can use that word whenever you need it. Maybe ‘relax,’ or ‘I am at peace,’ or ‘I am.’ When you say that word, you automatically and simultaneously relax at that fraction of that second. There may be times when you have to say it a thousand times a day, but you will start to find that you’ll get into this groove of relaxing.”
Simplify. “If you can start to really simplify: simplify your thoughts, then simplify your life. For example, whenever you have the opportunity, have an organic piece of fruit or vegetable. It doesn’t have to be an elaborate thing. The same thing holds true in skincare. You don’t have to worry about, ‘If I don’t use 5 or 6 products it won’t work.’ You can get by with one thing, with one product, and then slowly start to add new things into that routine. Soon enough, people find it’s so simple – they’ve lost the complexity of being so mainstream!”
