We have found inspiration everywhere: from the walk to our local coffee shop to our trips around the world. Oftentimes, its just a matter of relishing the little things. If ever there were two women who understand the delight in finding this bit of sparkle in the everyday, it is Katie Armour and Jane Lilly Warren, co-founders of the online publication Matchbook Magazine. Launched in early 2011, Matchbook has already gained a dedicated following, offering its readers a gorgeously curated and thoughtful look on a range of topics – fashion, design, arts and culture, travel, and food. Life according to Matchbook is whimsical, thoughtful, and – dare we say – a bit magical.

We heard Katie and Jane were ABC fans. As such, we caught up with them just in time to pick their brains on leading a charmed life, the holiday season, and what inspires them in ABC Carpet & Home.
ABC REVEAL: Matchbook Mag is a ‘field guide to a charmed life.’ In terms of home decorating: any tips you can impart to easily add charm to a space?
MATCHBOOK MAG: We’re all about the little things. Having a charming home doesn’t require a million bucks — just sentimental value and a dash of flair. We’re big fans of fresh flowers, colorful artwork, and family heirlooms that add a sentimental touch.
ABCR: Where do you find design inspiration?
MM: From a walk around the neighborhood with our pups to traveling throughout Europe, we find inspiration in the everyday. Be it a vintage book cover, a fabulous new croquet set, or the latest Woody Allen documentary, there’s always something sparking interesting conversation and fresh ideas.
ABCR: Holiday season is upon us! How will you be spending Thanksgiving? Will you be a host or guest?
Katie: My husband and I will be rounding up our pugs and heading down the California coast to my grandmother’s for the holiday. It’s never a big formal fuss — just simple and elegant. I’m especially looking forward to pumpkin pie and lots of laughter.
Jane: My husband and I will be having a cozy Thanksgiving at home, hosting my father. We plan to cook a few of our favorite dishes, and read and relax by the fireplace.
ABCR: When you do wear that hat of hostess…any tips or secrets for entertaining you can share?
MM: When entertaining we love to keep things casual and fun. Little details like colorful linen cocktail napkins and a smart iPod mix always keep things upbeat. A well-stocked bar never hurt either!
ABCR: An ideal housewarming gift?
MM: We love gifts that reflect the recipient. Perhaps a case of their favorite wine, a beautiful set of table linens in their favorite color, or cozy candles in a scent they love.

the Matchbook ladies fill in the blanks…
Katie
To me, home means… coziness. I’m all about warm throws and curling up with a stack of good books.
The item in my home I most treasure… A framed taxidermy butterfly my husband bought me on the street in New York. It’s this vivid coral pink and mustard yellow. So simple and reminds me of when we first started dating.
ABC Carpet & Home is… heaven on earth! I never leave empty handed — so much inspiration in one place!

Jane
To me, home means… happiness and charm – a place where you’re always at ease.
The item in my home I most treasure… is our artwork. Our walls are covered in lithographs, oil paintings and watercolors by my mother. Her work is beautiful and makes our house feel like a home.
ABC Home is…an all-time favorite destination of mine! Growing up in Manhattan, it was always a source for endless inspiration and countless hours of window shopping with friends.
Jane’s picks from ABC

2. Re-Trouve Chair: These chairs would look right at home on my lawn, and even better at a garden soiree!
3. Pair of Blanc de Chien Dog Lamps: These lamps would add a handsome and worldly touch to any room of the house, while still having just the right element of quirk and personality. I’m simply smitten.
Thank you to the stylish Katie and Jane for catching up with us!
