Event Recap: An Evening with the Novogratz

“ABC Carpet is one of the first places we visited in New York when we arrived here 20 years ago, so it’s always great to have a reason to come back here,” opened Bob Novogratz.  “Part of our journey has been about inspiration, so bravo to ABC for giving us so much of that over the years.”

The feeling is mutual.

Recently, we welcomed our friends and design innovators, the Novogratz, for an Apartment Therapy Design Evening hosted by Maxwell Gillingham Ryan, here on our mezzanine level.

The Novogratz are husband and wife design team, Cortney and Robert Novogratz.  They met at a party in New York and no one saw them for three days.  Their synergy is visibly apparent and contagious, so it’s no surprise that it only took them that short time to decide to marry.  From there, the duo first got their start by renovating run-down properties in Manhattan, funded in part by promoting parties and part by sheer luck, sinking all of their money into one house at a time.  “The parties were fun, and successful – nine of our friends met and got married after meeting at our parties,” laughed Cortney.

Humble, accessible, and spirited, now, with their show “Home by Novogratz” on HGTV, they juggle seven children and loads of clients.  “We don’t take any of our successes or failures too seriously. And we continue to keep it fun,” said Bob.
