ABC Carpet & Home was agai
n honored to host an intimate evening celebrating the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) and NY Design Week. Sunday, May 20th, design aficionados, among them Caroline Baumann, CDFA, , Ingrid Abramovitch, Elle Décor, designers Eric Slayton and John Reeves, and Todd Snyder, CDFA’s New Menswear Designer of the Year nominee, joined us to divulge in the auditory blessings of Ingrid Michaelson in her performance set amongst our newest installation Heart, Light & Shadow. “A relaxing and creatively inspiring break in beautiful surroundings,” said Rob A., design habitué and ICFF attendee.
Our street level window display offers guests a preview of Heart, Light & Shadow found on ABC Home’s third floor. Do you remember sound the door made/ When you closed it on me? Lyrics from Michaelson’s song ‘Ghost,’ from which our installation was inspired, are threaded through whispers of gauze conveying a certain strength in transparency. Heart, Light & Shadow was a visual parallel to the night’s sensory experience of self expression. The collection exists as a reflection of the balance of light and dark, vulnerability and truth, and the use of beauty as a tool for positive change that we see as parallels between Michaelson’s work and our space.
We’re no stranger to Michaelson, whom performed last March for our Obama fundraiser. Though, Sunday, the last stop on her spring 2012 tour, ABC Carpet & Home “was like doing yoga after months of sprinting and doing cardio,” said Michaelson.
Michaelson delivered a strong, yet playful performance, though ‘Ghost’ is rooted in a mood of relentless despair. But the beautiful thing about art, she said, “is people can take what they want away from it.” Each song tooled with metaphor and soaking with honesty is a snapshot within an entire life’s album.
“It was a perfect way to end my tour,” she said. “Paulette and ABC Home toe that line of power and the ability to be sweet and kind while doing good in this world.”
