We are no strangers to the outstanding talent that is Jean-Georges Vongerichten: Michelin-starred chef, renowned restaurateur, and co-creator of our very own ABC Kitchen (watch our exclusive catch-up and Greenmarket visit with him, here). What we haven’t been privy to, however, are the simple recipes that Jean-Georges prepares for his nearest and dearest – until now.
A few years ago, Jean-Georges decided to grant himself a luxury we all take for granted: two-day weekends. As such, he and his wife, Marja, and his three children—Chloe, Cedric, and Louise—retreat to their country home in Waccabuc, New York. There, Jean-Georges produces the outstanding dishes for which he is known, but with little effort and few dishes to clean at the end. In his about-to-be-released book (November 1), Home Cooking with Jean-Georges: My Favorite Simple Recipes, he shares 100 of these recipes – many of which have been articulated on ABC Kitchen’s own menu.
From herbed sea bass and potatoes in broth to buttermilk pancakes with warm berry syrup, we’re salivating over everything (including the gorgeous photography) of this comprehensive cookbook. Two of our favorite recipes? The crab toasts with sriracha mayonnaise and the open-faced crab sandwich with garlic aioli.
A fun behind-the-scenes fact: years ago, Jean-Georges met his dear friend and seafood supplier Ingrid Bengis while cooking as a chef in Boston. Their first encounter was rather comical… but eventually led to still-standing partnership.
