Patina, on metal, is a chemical reaction that transforms a piece during its exposure to the elements. In design, the process denotes the accumulation of change and a past an object has observed, that affect its surface color and texture from use, from a history.
ABC Home’s Elements Collection
Like combining the character of a well-traveled coin, the timelessness of an antique rug, and the flair of the psych-70’s era, Elements is a vintage-inspired collection with the sustainability to last for years. Colorful, comfortable velvet, each component is unique in its dye process making every one individually transformative and unique as the time period from which it was inspired.
ABC’s personal shopper, Matt Falcone, tells us Elements has raised some brows. “People are definitely drawn to the collection because of the vintage vibe and the feel of the fabric that’s been updated with new materials. It’s got a real fashion angle to it, like Marni, Missoni or Gaultier.”
Exclusive to ABC, elements can embrace its era or integrate with any other time period for any season. Meticulous attention is paid to make sure that, while one-of-a-kind pieces, they can work together no matter how one might arrange them in the home.
“They’ve struck a cord,” commented our design consultant, Steven Wagner, whom has integrated Elements into two homes already with two very different looks – one in the great room of an estate in Conneticut and the other a prewar television room. “In both,” said Wagner, “the low-slung silhouette blended in with the rest of the furnishings and melded with the existing architecture. The tie-dyed blues, pinks, and yellows harken to a 60’s and 70’s sensibility, yet work well with a contemporary environment.”
Symbolic of what makes up our ABC DNA, Elements can fully function as its own form or transcend a room, exercising the home as a platform for personal expression, as an accent piece in color, texture, and shape.
